Castillo de Santa Bárbara

Castillo de Santa Bárbara is perched on top of Mount Benacantil (166 metres high), and is one of Spain’s largest mediaeval fortresses, with a sweeping view of the bay.

You have 3 options on how to get to the top.

  • Walk up (hike uphill – about an hour)
  • spend €2.40 and ride the elevator (Ascensor al Castillo de Santa Bárbara)
  • spend €1.45 and ride the shuttle bus to the top.

Bus Routes

Alicante has a variety of local buses (lineas urbanas) that connect the city centre and its surroundings. TAM is the transport system and Vectalia is the public transportation provider in Alicante.
