Great news! The ‘free’ train travel scheme has been extended into 2023.<\/p>\n

Valid from January 1 to December 31, 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This plan of action was announced by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez as a way to help the public with the impact of rising inflation and the increase in the cost of living.<\/p>\n

The passes are valid for short and medium distance, multi-journey travel from September 1st to December 31, 2022. The tickets have been available for pre-purchase since August 24th. You can purchase them through the Renfe Cercan\u00edas mobile app, at the ticket booths and self-service machines at the train stations.<\/p>\n

Did you hear about the exciting news in Spain? Last year, the government and Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez recognized the impact of inflation on the people and decided to ease the cost crunch by offering free train rides to commuters. This initiative, which was set to end this spring, has now been extended to December 2023!<\/p>\n

So, what does this mean for you? If you’re a tourist, you can travel between major cities like Barcelona, Seville, Madrid, and Bilbao for free, and also explore smaller towns outside these cities without additional travel costs. However, it’s important to note that not all trains participate in the initiative, and it might take you a little longer to reach your destination.<\/p>\n

To get the free train tickets, all you have to do is pay a small deposit of 10 euros for commuter services<\/strong> and 20 euros for medium-distance trains<\/strong>. But no need to worry, as long as you complete at least 16 train journeys by the end of 2023, you’ll get your deposit back – there is no penalty for failing to use the minimum number of trips. You simply won’t get your deposit back! Keep in mind that the free tickets will only be available for multi-trip tickets (which include a minimum of 10 return trips), not single fares.<\/p>\n

So, if you’re planning a trip to Spain this year, you can save some of your inter-country travel budget and spend it on delicious food instead! Happy travels!<\/p>\n
