Was this after you learned to dive?

Well, I started snorkeling at a very young age. When I was 10 or 12 years old I was already diving and I spent the summers on the coast of Murcia, in Mazarron, practically in the water all the time. When I was just over 20 years old, I started diving with an air bottle.

On the other hand, I have lived photography since I was a child, All my family since my maternal grandfather have been professional photographers with a photographic studio, so I have grown up among developer liquids, photo retouching workshops, enlargers, enamellers, etc.

So at one point, about 30 years ago, I decided to unite the two hobbies. I started with rolls cameras, shooting 35mm Slide Film. 35 shots on each reel, so you had to learn to take the photo well underwater because you only had 36 shots and what came out was what there was.

I started with Nikonos or Sea & Sea type amphibious cameras and then little by little I moved to the Reflex camera in an underwater housing. And I say little by little because the highest-end equipment is expensive and at the price of the Reflex you have to add lenses, housings, headlights, underwater strobes, etc. It’s just a hobby and you need to go little by little as much as possible, even selling used equipment and buying things that are needed.
Later, around 2006, I made the leap to digital SLR, but with the base learned from analogical rolls photography and the most important thing that I was learning is that for me the photo is taken from the frame in the camera and not only on the computer afterwards. The computer is a complement, but the photographic base that makes a photo stand out has to come from inside the camera.

Also I was participating on some photo contests live and online. Some I was winner and many I don’t win, but they all taught me something.

And that’s how I got to this, which today I do with passion and an activity that I love.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Body Text / Paragraph” _builder_version=”4.19.5″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Can you name all the locations you have gone to for diving? Also, and because of people and helped by the rise in temperature in the Mediterranean, a tropical algae is proliferating, Caulerpa taxifolia, whose main drawback is that it is colonizing the seabed and killing Posidonia oceanica, which is an underwater plant in the Mediterranean that, in addition to contributing to oxygenation in its extensive meadows, gives life and shelter to many species.

In tropical seas, we are also seeing a growing deterioration in the health status of corals due to climate change.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Body Text / Paragraph” _builder_version=”4.19.5″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

How about the underwater environment? Are you seeing environmental damage to coral reefs, etc due to pollution?

Pollution is another big problem in which man contributes very actively. In addition to the injuries and death of many species such as dolphins, turtles, etc. due to abandoned fishing gear, we are suffering a true avalanche of human pollution, not only due to spills, but mainly due to plastics. It hurts me a lot to see the appearance of many beaches after small parties on them or massive influxes of people.

It is daunting to see the amount of plastic material that they abandon, from bottles to different types of plastic that are abandoned to their fate. Then the high tide takes over the rest and spreads them throughout the sea.

Apart from visual impairment, plastics often end up in the stomachs of some large species, causing intestinal blockages and death.

Not only plastics are dumped on a small scale, but also in many places the sea is the dump at the industrial level, which contributes to pollution itself by industrial waste, by accidental fuel spills or not and in general a large amount of trash

In addition, all this garbage that we pour into the seas little by little is making the same places unpleasant to see and unhealthy for all animals.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Body Text / Paragraph” _builder_version=”4.19.5″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Does that make you more conscious and live a greener lifestyle?

I have my ecologist and conservative instinct with the environment etched in my heart……….but this must be a collective task and it is impossible to educate people and sometimes governments do not bother to educate. Educating people is not part of the objectives of many governments. Many times, education for the use of common goods and spaces must be from an early age in schools and even strengthen sanctions to force compliance with regulations in this regard, since nature and the sea are a common good, which is a right of the whole community and in this way we have to make everyone respect it with education and strict rules. We must preserve this planet and bequeath it in a healthy way to our children.

I know that the words I say, regarding the imposition or the authoritarian way of enforcing environmental conservation regulations, sound bad to some people or even illusory to others, but there is no other option and I am very convinced that the right to the community to enjoy the common planet and the common spaces must be higher than the individual right and of course above any activity that deteriorates the planet.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Body Text / Paragraph” _builder_version=”4.19.5″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Have you heard of sustainable marine tourism?

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Body Text / Paragraph” _builder_version=”4.20.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]
