The Sorolla Museum in Madrid opened its doors in 1932 and is one of the more complete and best preserved artist homes remaining in Europe. The garden was also designed by Sorolla himself and is a beautiful oasis hidden away in the bustling city of Madrid. Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida was born in Valencia, 27 February 1863 and died in Madrid, 10 August 1923.

The museum preserves the original home and studio where Sorolla stayed in the last days of his life. Clotilde, his wife, donated the house and its contents to the Spanish government on the condition that it would be transformed into a museum dedicated to her husband’s works. It assembles the best collection of his works, including many paintings of the love of his life, his wife Clotilde.
