Valencia has a slightly confusing transportation network. After living here for 2 years, we finally figured out that the metro system seems to have been planned for reaching further away suburbs (or the airport) but not for getting around the city.
So, if you want to navigate the city centre, you’ll be much better off taking the bus. Just remember, the buses run in a circular route – which means that it doesn’t drop off and pick-up at the same spot.
The bus you take to the old town might not drop you off anywhere near where you got on. You may need to ask a few locals to direct you to the right bus stop.
Essentially, public transportation in Valencia has really good standards and is clean and modern; like other Spanish cities, we just found the organization a bit odd, especially coming from a place like Vancouver, BC, Canada where public transit is highly organized and runs like clockwork. The thing that throws us off each time is the schedule. The regular bus and metro routes finish up around 10:30pm all week long and not much of a warning when the buses don’t run (desviado) due to a fiesta or a race. Saving grace is the night bus….N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, N9, N10, N89, N90 that run from 22:30 – 02:00
TIP: We recommend storing Google Maps (or any other map app) off-line during your visit so you always have a handy map with you.
NOTE: There seems to always be some sort of construction (marathon, fiesta, etc. pre-covid) happening somewhere in the city of Valencia. Make sure to check current bus and metro routes and not just rely on Google.

Valenbisi – bicycle sharing system
As with many other European cities, Valencia offers an option to rent bicycles through Valenbisi, a perfect option for those who prefer getting around on two wheels.
Short Term
With the Short term Ticket you can make all the trips you want with a bicycle for 7 consecutive days.
