20 January
The Bread Festival (Fiesta del Pan) is celebrated in honor of San Sebastian.
Lubrin, a village in Almeria, Andalusia is host to one of the most interesting and fun festivals we have ever gone to. During the main festival day, there are fireworks, doughnuts, bread rings and the traditional procession with the image of Saint Sebastian. After the Saint leaves the Church, bread rings are thrown from the balconies of the houses as the Saint passes by. Townspeople use their hands to catch the bread rings then string it on their belts, pieces of rope or put it into bags. Afterwards, everyone heads over to the main square (Plaza Mayor) to share in a meal together.
John loved it and was able to catch 2!
