This was our second time at this location, and for friends Kep and Erin, it was their first. We all vote YAY on this one.

For this post, Erin shares her opinion too….I am sure y’all don’t want to only hear from John and I all the time….so I asked for her 2 cents and boy did I get my money’s worth. Erin has her own blog too, Curiosity and a Suitcase which I highly recommend you check out. I love Erin’s writing style! Back to deets on the Black Turtle.

Menú de Mediodía

For less than 12€, it was definitely good value. You get a starter, main dish (3 burger options), dessert and includes a drink (water, soda/pop, regular beer, glass of red or white wine).

Drinks

John and I arrived a few minutes ahead of Kep and Erin so we went ahead and ordered some drinks. John ordered a beer while I ordered a Niña Colada, ‘big girl drink’ instead of my usual agua fria but did ask for only 1/2 the amount of alcohol. When our lunch peeps arrived, they ordered Lagunitas IPA. A beer I hadn’t heard of but apparently is very good!

The Starters

John, Kep and I ordered the Menú de Mediodía and Erin opted for burger only. John and Kep ordered patatas bravas and I ordered hummus. The hummus was good but the bravas were not spicy enough. On our first visit, John had ordered Chicken Tenders as his starter and they were definitely better than the bravas.

The Main Event

Kep, Erin and John ordered the American Burger (lettuce, Edam cheese, tomato, onions, crunchy bacon and burger sauce). I ordered the Kahuna Burger (lettuce, Edam cheese, caramelized onions, teriyaki ‘ketchup’, special The Black Turtle sauce). TBH, 3 of us ordered ours sin cebolla (no onions :)) The 3 of them chose brioche for their bread and I opted for sin gluten bread. Apparently my blood sugar is slightly elevated so its time to cut out sugars where and when I can.

Our tummies were full and happy with the food and price. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place for a simple, tasty and well-priced meal.

…..and now from Erin

I do enjoy a good burger and have only heard good things about Black Turtle but for whatever excuse I can create, I’d yet to try them. Until today!

I didn’t opt for the menú del día but my husband did so I was able to relieve him of a few patatas bravas. While the menu indicated they were spicy, I’d say HA! They had good flavor and, yes, there was a hint of spice but I think everyone’s socks would remain on.

I ordered the American burger with brioche bun (you choose between brioche, rústica, and gluten-free) and from what I can recall after inhaling it, was that I liked it. It was juicy, cooked exactly to my preference, and the bacon was better than the transparently thin options at the store. The fries were a little underwhelming, however. They were cooked just a bit too long, and strangely, they needed salt. SALT, Spain’s main ingredient!

I’d consider the menú del día a good deal (one starter, choose one of three burgers, dessert, AND a small beer if you so desire) for €10. …but beware, that scoop of ice cream with your brownie is an extra 1€. ¡Vale la pena!

Bottom line, I would definitely return. Good service, good burger, and they have Lagunitas IPA!
